FEMALE VOICE: A FOX 11 camerawoman has been awarded more than $1.7 million for the injuries she suffered at the hands of some LAPD officers, had to do with that pro-immigration rally on May Day three years ago. The jury believed Patricia Ballas had been roughed up by police. Footage of the event was played during the trial. Jurors also returned a verdict in favor of radio reporter Patricia Nazario. She was awarded $39,000. After the verdict came down, Ballas's attorney said the jury agreed that the officers involved went too far with their authority.
MALE VOICE: And that Patty Ballas shouldn't have been injured. She was doing what she was hired to do, go out and cover this event, bring the news. And the police deliberately tried to keep her from doing so and battered her and hit her with batons and threatened her and changed her life.
FEMALE VOICE: Jurors could not, however, reach a verdict on allegations made by FOX 11 reporter Christina Gonzales. She was on that assignment with Ballas in Macarthur Park and was also involved in the confrontation.
