Metrolink Accident Injures Seven

Earlier this month, a Metrolink train crashed into a dump truck in Los Angeles, causing injury to at least seven people. According to authorities, the train was at the intersection of Branford Street and San Fernando Road when it hit the truck. Seven people were transported to area hospitals, though it is believed all seven suffered minor injuries.

Injuries that seem minor, however, can cause lifelong challenges. Those that were injured in the Metrolink crash may be able to bring a personal injury claim to cover their medical expenses and other damages that resulted from the collision.

Who they can bring a lawsuit against depends on the results of an investigation into the cause of the accident. If, for example, a train gate didn't close in time or the train is relatively unguarded, then Metrolink and the Southern California Regional could be held responsible for negligence.

Bringing a lawsuit against Metrolink or another publicly run entity is different from bringing a lawsuit against the truck driver, for example. It is vital that a lawsuit is filed in a timely manner and with the correct jurisdiction.

Many people choose to ride the train because it is a safer form of transportation than driving to work. When an accident involving the Metrolink occurs, it causes those people to think again. This is what happened in September 2008, when a Metrolink train crash killed 25 people and injured 135 more. While the San Fernando Road Metrolink crash was not nearly as serious, it reminds us that more can and should be done to increase train safety and prevent injuries to passengers.
