California Party Bus Accident Kills Burlesque Star

On Sunday morning, a party bus hit a car on Highway 101, killing internationally recognized burlesque performer Sarah Klein, aka Sparkly Devil. Her husband was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the car was traveling southbound on 101 when it hit the center divider and spun out of control. The party bus then hit the car. At least nine of the eighteen passengers on the party bus were injured in this car accident.

It is still unknown what caused the accident, but there is some evidence that Klein's husband had been drinking. If that is the case, then he could face criminal charges for drunk driving as well as civil liability for the injuries his actions caused, including his wife's death.

Drunk driving kills thousands of people every year and causes many more injuries. In California alone, 1,768 people were killed in DWI crashes in 2010. At least 24,343 people were injured. Furthermore, millions of people make the decision to drive drunk every year - more than 9 percent of the U.S. population answered that they had driven drunk in the month preceding a survey by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.

If you knew that you would be critically injured and someone you loved dearly would die, would you choose to hand in your keys and find a safe ride home?

Sarah Klein was well respected for her talents as both a burlesque performer and a writer. She often wrote columns about the trade. "She was by far one of the most respected and beloved people in our community," the executive producer of San Francisco's Hubba Hubba Review, Jim Sweeney said.
