Street Racing In Los Angeles Kills Pedestrian

Authorities believe that street racing caused the death of a 57-year-old man in South Los Angeles last weekend. According to police, the man was crossing Compton Avenue when a vehicle traveling at high speeds hit him.

The driver was an 18-year-old man who appeared to be racing another car. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, he has confessed to speeding and is being held on vehicular manslaughter charges.

Compton Avenue is a popular location for street racing among teenagers and young adults. Unfortunately, it can take a serious or fatal accident before street racers realize the consequences of their actions.

According to the National Hot Rod Association, whose motto is “Race the strip. Not the street,” the California Office of Traffic Safety issued more than 800 illegal street racing citations in one year alone. Out of every 1,000 drag race participants, 49 are injured and many more innocent drivers and pedestrians are injured or killed by illegal street racers every year.

Street racing, like drunk driving and other forms of dangerous and reckless driving, is illegal. Street racers can face up to three months in jail and $1,000 in fines, which can significantly increase if another person is injured as the result of the drag race. But those penalties don’t compare to the pain and suffering experienced by the victims of street racing and their families.

Our hearts go out to the family that is grieving the loss of their loved one after this tragic and preventable street race accident.
