Teen killed in single-car crash

Young drivers tend to be among the most-accident prone people on the roads, with teens suffering from higher injury and death rates in car accidents than their older counterparts. As a result, young people may also be the target for liability in civil suits related to injuries suffered during crashes. Victims who have been harmed by young drivers should know that they have legal recourse. Even family members of victims killed in such crashes can benefit from financial compensation associated with a pain and suffering or other civil claims.

Relatives of a 17-year-old high school student who was killed in a recent crash near Los Angeles, California, could benefit from legal action. The young man was a passenger in a vehicle that wrecked in Danville, California, as he and two friends were returning from a fishing trip. The accident occurred on Aug. 26, when the teenaged driver of the vehicle lost control of the car and smashed into a tree. The single-car accident not only killed one victim, but also injured both the driver and another 16-year-old passenger. Both of those young men are recovering at area hospitals.

Official reports show the crash happened just down the road from the Crow Canyon Country Club. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, and it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were involved, though speeding may still be a consideration.

All three of the vehicle's occupants are students at San Ramon Valley High in Danville. Fellow students are mourning the passing of their friend by placing signs and memorial items at the site of the crash. In addition, students were given access to counselors and observed a moment of silence in memory of the decedent. Sadly, the counselors were required on the first day of school. Administrators say they are attempting to help the students work through their emotional reactions to the event.
