Faulty Brakes Lawsuit Against Nissan Nearing An End

The class action suit against Nissan related to faulty brakes in its Armada, Titan and Infiniti QX56 models appears to be nearing its conclusion. The lawsuit alleged that a defective electrical component in these vehicles could affect the brakes, causing the brakes to fail unexpectedly and put drivers and passengers in significant danger.

In early December, a settlement agreement was filed with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Now, the settlement needs only be approved by the presiding judge. If that happens, those who qualify for compensation could receive up to $800 from Nissan, depending on their vehicles' mileage.

As we have discussed in a previous blog, the models included in this lawsuit are not the first Nissan vehicles to be accused of containing faulty brakes. In 2013, the company issued a recall of its Infiniti JX and Pathfinder vehicles built between early December of 2012 and late January 2013.

The model years involved in the current suit are significantly older - 2004 to 2008 - as Infiniti JXs and Pathfinders affected by the recall had not even been manufactured when this suit was filed in 2011.

Nissan has stated that it will send a notice to those who may be eligible for compensation under the terms of the settlement. If you own a vehicle that falls under the year and model criteria of this settlement, be on the lookout for that notice and be sure to check for any other instructions you may receive.
