After A Car Accident: What You Need To Know, And What You Need To Do.

From the moments immediately following a car accident, to the weeks, months and years that follow, you will do many things to protect your health and your ability to provide for yourself and your family. But it can be nearly impossible to know if the steps you are taking are the steps you should be taking.

For guidance in this matter, we encourage you to utilize the resources listed below.

After a Car Accident: First Steps: This checklist (printable pamphlet version available via a link in the first paragraph of this site) provides insight into all of the steps you should take at various stages after an auto accident.

The State Bar of California's Auto Accident Pamphlet: The State Bar's Insurance Law Committee and Business Law Section maintain this pamphlet that answers many commonly asked questions related to car accidents. Examples include: "If I have an auto accident, do I have to stop?," "If I think the accident was my fault, should I say so?" and "What should I do if the other driver does not have insurance?"

Automobile Club of Southern California Accident Guide: This club is affiliated with the American Automobile Association (also known as "triple A" or AAA), and has compiled a list of tips to follow after an accident.

The Car Accidents Section of Our Blog: With more than 110 posts on the subject of auto accidents, our blog offers a wealth of information on this subject.

Our Attorneys: We also encourage you to reach out to us and speak directly with our attorneys. We want you to have the information you need to protect your health and your family's financial wellbeing, so our lawyers will gladly speak with you about your injuries and the accident that caused them.

Consider the Source...

Be wary of any "accident guides" that are put together by insurance companies. While these guides may contain some useful information, the source of such guides - large companies that want to protect their bottom lines and will often deny accident claims - is cause for concern.

Even more important, do not sign anything presented to you by an insurance company without first having a trained legal professional review the document , or you may inadvertently sign away your rights!
