Suspect apprehended in hit-and-run death of drumline teacher

Police apprehended a woman on May 28 in connection with a hit-and-run fatality.

The woman, who had been evading law enforcement for more than a month, had gone to great lengths to change her appearance to in order to avoid capture, including getting a large tattoo of a dragon on the left side of her face, dying her hair bright pink, and wearing blue contact lenses.

Despite her efforts, police caught the lady that Saturday night after tracking her to a home in Santa Ana, which she left in a stolen car before proceeding to lead officers on a 10-15 minute car chase before abandoning the vehicle and attempting to flee on foot. She was ultimately unsuccessful, and was brought down with the aid of a police dog.

The woman was wanted in connection with the hit-and-run death of a Saddleback High School drumline instructor on April 20. Law enforcement officials believe that she was the driver of the black BMW that struck the drum teacher on a crosswalk at Bristol Street and Central Ave around 2:15 in the morning. The driver of the vehicle allegedly stopped after striking the teacher, got out of the vehicle and approached him, then got back in the vehicle and drove away. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was soon declared braindead.

Considering the severity of charges being brought against her regarding the fatal accident, the driver could be facing a number of years in jail if she is convicted. Nevertheless, she is entitled to a criminal defense, and she will certainly want to consider her representation very carefully.
