Treating a minor burn at home

Burns can range from a minor injury that is easily treatable at home to a life-threatening wound that takes sophisticated medical science to successfully treat. Because burn treatment is essential and the faster the better, if a California resident hopes to reduce pain and recover as quickly as possible, it's important to know how to treat a burn from home. This article will discuss how to treat minor burns:

-- Cool the burn by running cool tap water on the burn for a period of 10 to 15 minutes. Continue to run water on the burn until the pain eases.

-- Take off tight items and rings and jewelry from the burn area. It's important to do this as soon as possible following the burn before it starts to swell.

-- Be careful with little blisters that are smaller than the little finger. In case the blister breaks clean it with soap and water, then apply antibiotic cream to the area and a nonstick bandage.

-- Try using aloe vera gel, or a least apply a moisturizer, which will prevent dryness while the area heals.

-- If the pain is bad, try an over-the-counter pain pill.

-- A tetanus shot could be helpful. If it has been more than 10 years since the last tetanus shot, it is probably time to get a booster shot to stay immune to germs.

-- Cover the sunburned area with sunscreen and moisturizer each day to avoid further injury.

Finally, if you suspect that your burn is the result of a defective or dangerous product, you might consider speaking with a lawyer about pursuing a claim for damages against the manufacturer of that product. If you have a viable claim, you may be able to recover the costs associated with medical care for your injuries as well as money for other kinds of damages.
