Wrongful death suit filed in February fatal crash in Glendora

Survivors of a man who was killed in a Glendora auto accident on Feb. 24 have filed a negligence and wrongful death lawsuit seeking unspecified damages against the parties they allege are responsible for their loved one's death.

The adult child, widow and three minor children of the 41-year-old deceased El Monte man who was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved are plaintiffs in the litigation. The defendants include an individual male driver and Advanced Inverter Services Inc.

The collision occurred at approximately 10 on the 210 freeway around the Amelia Avenue exit. A 24-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a 1995 Toyota pickup, as reported by the California Highway Patrol.

She was in the left lane and braked for a car ahead, which had decreased its speed. The defendant was behind the woman in his F-350 pickup truck. Failing to stop, he slammed into the lighter pickup, pushing it into the center wall dividing the lanes. Her male passenger suffered blunt force trauma, which proved fatal. The woman also died from her injuries.

The suit was filed last month in Los Angeles Superior Court. It alleges the driver of the F-350 pickup truck was going "faster than reasonable under the circumstances and did not stay a safe distance" from the pickup in front of it, which resulted in the man's death.

No mention was made of any citations the surviving driver may have been given, and it is not necessary for someone to be charged or even ticketed in an accident in order to successfully pursue compensation through the civil courts.
